The Department of Physics , West Bengal State University, Barasat will be hosting an Introductory Workshop on Astrophysics jointly with IUCAA, Pune through the IUCAA Resource Centre, Kolkata during November 26 - 28, 2010. Though the workshop is intended for young faculty members from College/ Universities and Research Scholars working in related areas of Physics, interested post graduate students may also apply.

The objective of the Workshop is to familiarise the participants with the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics and also to highlight the recent trends in Astrophysical research both in India and abroad. The workshop will consist of introductory lectures on various topics of current research interests like Measurement techniques in Astronomy, Birth and evolution of stars, Compact objects, Large Scale Structure of the Universe etc. The lectures will be delivered by eminent scientists working in the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics in different Institutes and Universities. Some Interactive sessions will also be held so that the participants may closely interact with the speakers and draw inspiration to pursue further studies in the emerging areas of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
